The Glassell School and Bayou Bend are pleased to offer summer workshops at the Kilroy Visitor and Education Center.

Pursue landscape drawing in the American art tradition on the grounds and in the gardens of Bayou Bend. In this workshop, students will draw from observed natural subjects such as trees, plant forms, and landscape elements under instructed guidance. With such drawing tools as graphite pencil and charcoal, students will investigate textures, spatial depth, atmospheric effects, and architectural elements.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to explore watercolor and sketching on the historic grounds of Bayou Bend. Students will work from a variety of observed subjects outdoors. Basic sketching and watercolor techniques will be introduced in the exploration of light quality, landscape patterns and textures, and architectural elements under the direction of the instructor. Watercolor pencils, water-soluble black and colored pens, and portable watercolor kits may be
used in conjunction with bound sketchbooks or watercolor blocks.
