Zoya Tommy Contemporary is pleased to present Premier Cru, a solo exhibition of paintings by Houston-based artist Guus Kemp. The show opens with two reception's for the artist from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, March, 22 and Saturday, March 23 and continues through April 20.

There will be an artist's talk on Saturday 23, at 2pm. Refeshments and drinks will be served. The gallery will have extended gallery hours on Sunday 24, from 1-5pm.

Born in Kerkrade, the Netherlands, Kemp was inspired by and exposed to works of numerous exceptional painters including Mark Rothko and Jasper Johns, who generated in him everlasting impressions and infinite inspiration. When surrounded by his work, he finds himself recharged by the energy that originally fueled his creative output.

"I want to bring the energy I feel, and the dynamics and brightness of life and colors into my paintings. My paintings are a reflection of who I am . . . an extrovert who takes life by the horns! When I paint, I'm fully occupied and unconcerned with the events happening around me. I consider a painting great if it makes me smile, gives me energy, and appeals to the eye and soul."

Guus Kemp moved to Houston in 2000, with a master's degree in Organizational Psychology from the University of Amsterdam. Inspired by the natural light of the sunrise, and the uncluttered mind at the start of a new day found in his studio, Kemp began exploring with oils in late 2008 to discover a transformative experience that has shaped and guided the course of his paintings.

Kemp has exhibited in Houston at The Art Car Museum, Nau-Haus Gallery, The Audley Society and West University Center; at Gallery Orange, New Orleans, LA; Galerie Ortiz, Gallery Anarde in San Antonio, TX. Forthcoming, Kemp will be exhibiting at Gallery Nord in San Antonio, TX.

Kemp has exhibited at the Houston Fine Art Fair with Zoya Tommy Contemporary in 2012 and this much anticipated solo exhibition titled Premier Cru promises to engage all your senses.
