Visual Arts Internships
Job Title: Visual Arts Director Intern
Reports to: Visual Arts Director
● Assist with Exhibition Programming
○ Help Maintain up to date annual exhibition schedule
○ Help Organise Open Call for Artist Proposals, Texas Artist of the Year, Juried Member Show, Healing Art Benefit and Annual Gala.
● Help co-ordinate exhibitions with artists
○ Help the artist(s) find what they need in their exhibition for free or little cost such as projectors, TVs, furniture, paint, display cases, movable walls, discount shipping, wrapping artwork, cherry picker, canvases, rugs and more.
○ Help create incoming loan agreements and exhibition related shipping
● Help organize panel discussions relating to an exhibition, as well as organize exciting events, demonstrations, workshops (etc) relating to an exhibition.
○ Host exhibition tours for students (high school and university level)
● Assist with exhibition Installation (Lots of physical work)
○ Help perform gallery maintenance- wall repair, painting, etc.
○ Assist with hanging artwork
○ Help light exhibition
○ Create image/price lists
○ Create artist bio books
○ Assist with de-stall
● Press and marketing
○ Assist with writing press releases
○ Distribute promotional material around the community/city and post events online
○ Help maintain accurate press email lists in Constant Contact
○ Work all ALH events
● Preferred Skills/Requirements:
○ • Major/minor in studio art, art history, graphic design and/or arts management
○ • Reliable transportation
○ • Good verbal and writing skills
○ • Ability to take initiative and work independently
○ • Friendly, works well with people
○ • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
○ • Ability to work daytime during office hours (Mon-Fri; 9AM-6PM and occasional
evenings/weekends).
○ • Resourceful, flexible, reliable personality and a team player
○ • Ability to work in a shared office space – capacity to multi-task
● Computer Skills:
○ • Adobe Photoshop, illustrator, Microsoft Word and Excel
○ • Experience with Facebook, Constant Contact and WordPress preferred but not
required
