Purpose of Position: The Education Associate will conduct art education classes in learning centers across the greater Austin area, produce screen printed products for the Museum Store, and assist with general administration of the Mexic-Arte Museum Education Department. The Education Associate will implement educational activities based on a variety of programs, with particular focus on the Museum’s Screen It! curriculum. Mexic-Arte Museum’s Screen It! program introduces k-12 students to the basic principles of screen printing and related careers in the art field. Screen It! courses focus on: creative design, computer literacy, and entrepreneurial training. The position reports to the Education Director.

Summary of responsibilities:

• Conduct screen printing-based classes in schools and community centers across the greater Austin area utilizing the Mexic-Arte Museum Screen It! curriculum

• Conduct art education classes in schools and community centers across the greater Austin area utilizing the Mexic-Arte Museum art education curriculum

• Generate screen printed merchandise for the Museum store

• Maintain the on-site screen printing studio and education inventory

• Conduct tours for children and adults

• Promote Mexic-Arte Museum education programs in schools and community centers across the greater Austin area

• Assist with the implementation of Family Day’s, Museum Special Events, Openings, and Fundraisers

• In conjunction with Education Director: track and generate required reports for grant funded activities

• In conjunction with Education Director: generate curriculum

• In conjunction with Education Director: provide copy for education-based printed materials, website, and marketing efforts

• In conjunction with Education Director: assist with upkeep of Education calendar and scheduling

• Correspond with all staff on a regular basis and generate reports for weekly meetings

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Studio Art, or related field

• Minimum 2 years teaching experience (arts-based teaching experience preferred, but not required)

• In-depth knowledge of screen printing and DIY techniques for a variety of applications, including but not limited to: preparing stencils, screen reclamation, mixing and loading ink, cleaning machines, troubleshooting technological problems, and maintaining screen printing equipment (please note, Mexic-Arte Museum does not use Plastisol-based inks)

• Ability to produce large quantities of screen printed merchandise efficiently and with a short turnaround time

• Proficiency with computers and software programs including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite

• Effective time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• Professional demeanor and positive attitude

• Enjoys working with students, volunteers, and the general public

• Patience and the ability to multi-task in the face of multiple projects and ever-changing schedules

• Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Valid Texas Driver’s License and personal vehicle to travel to schools and transport materials

• Ability to pass extensive background checks, required for in-school programming

• Intermediate-level fluency in Spanish

Compensation: This is a full-time position with benefits, including healthcare. The position is 40 hours per week, with some evening and weekend hours required. Salary is $28k per year.
