Gallery Assistant at Blue Star

The Gallery Assistant will aid staff members with administrative and creative tasks. Your duties will range from managing correspondence to monitoring visitors. Aiding staff members with administrative and organizational tasks is a primary function of this job. You will also manage communication with visitors and other outside parties, help setup and breakdown exhibits. You need to be extremely organized, detail oriented and highly educated, possessing at least a bachelor's degree in art history or a related area. You will handle phone traffic, prepare purchase orders and help coordinate events and exhibits. During regular hours and special events, you will ensure that the gallery is clean and that visitors follow the rules. You are responsible for monitoring and keeping artwork safe while the gallery is open. You will staff the front desk and greet visitors, answer questions and field sales inquiries. Because you are often the first person visitor’s encounter at the gallery, you must be personable, knowledgeable about artists and exhibits and have the ability to remember names and faces. You will promote current and upcoming exhibits and ensure that visitors do not damage any works in the gallery. You are responsible for managing our information technology and computer systems. You must be proficient in the software that is used in the gallery. This includes photo-editing programs. You need strong communication skills to work with gallery staff and outside parties on long-term projects. You may be responsible for coordinating and mailing invitations.

Will be needed Tuesdays - Saturdays 12-6, Thursdays 12-8, plus special events.
