Full-time Curatorial Assistant - Cincinnati


The Cincinnati Art Museum has an immediate opening for a full-time Curatorial Assistant reporting to the Curator of Prints, Kristin Spangenberg. This position is funded for one year through the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences grant and is effective from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. A second year of position funding will be contingent upon funding availability. This is a temporary, non exempt, position that is benefits eligible.

Responsibilities: The Curatorial Assistant participates in the implementation of the grant-funded project by conducting inventory, object research, and completing catalogue records selected for inclusion in the Art Museum’s online collection catalogue. The Curatorial Assistant works cooperatively with members of the inventory team, Curator of Prints, and other Art Museum staff to ensure the achievement of project objectives within its established time frame
Inventories and records locations of works on paper.
Handles works on paper as need for photography.
Spot checks copyright status for the 20th and 21st century works with ARS and Vaga for Vernon collection management system.
Researches, amends, and completes information in core data fields of Vernon collection management system for specific object groupings identified by the Curator of Prints.
Participates in regular meetings of the inventory team.
Assists in developing guidelines for storage of works on paper.
Follows Cincinnati Art Museum’s protocols, procedures, rules, and policies.
Other duties as assigned to complete the project.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency with Windows based software including Microsoft Office Applications. General hand and finger dexterity to handle and feel, arms to reach, climb and balance, and lift up to 35 pounds consistently. The ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.

Candidates should possess excellent organizational abilities, strong interpersonal skills, accurate writing skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with others toward the achievement of common goals.
