Chelo Amézcua’s imagery and words strongly convey the deep sense of historical and cultural dualities present in her life and art. She experienced the world in Del Rio from both sides of the border and strived to create her own world somewhere between.

The Smithers amassed a collection of remarkable breadth and depth, so rather than present a compendium of the whole collection, the exhibition wisely focuses on twelve artists who have much to teach us about creativity and the universal desire to communicate through art.

In the small West Texas town of Stamford, artist Johnny Anders has been able to successfully bridge the sometimes conflictual worlds of art and institutional bureaucracy. He does so by being the mayor.
