Mark Flood’s Exhibition Trailer, Sweet Houston Artists in NYC, and Possible Cute Kittens

by Paula Newton January 5, 2016

“We’re only a few days into 2016 and I’m already making a trend forecast: exhibition trailers,” wrote Artnews’ Hannah Ghorashi. “This prediction is based solely on the trailer Mark Flood has released for ‘The Future is Ow,’ the name of a forthcoming show of printed paintings at Marlborough Chelsea.”

It might seem funny to consider Houston artist Mark Flood a trendsetter; it’s funnier still to think of this violent Grand Theft Auto-ish trailer advertising an exhibition by these sweet Houston-based artists. Curated by Flood, the exhibition features work by Susie Rosmarin, El Franco Lee, Paul Kremer, Chris Bexar, and Flood himself. Flood (kind of) explains the show’s title: “’The Future is Ow’ title is irrational, but it might be about people saying Ow! when they don’t get to look at their precious brushstrokes anymore.”

It will be interesting to see if Flood follows his own trend and makes another trailer for his solo show, “Mark Flood: Gratest Hits,” set to open in late April at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. We suggest the cute kitten genre, but he knows his hometown well enough to hit some nerves if he so desires. “If anyone knows how to bite the hand that feeds him,” said Glasstire’s Rainey Knudson in the recent Spring Preview 2016 video, “it’s Mark Flood.”

Anyway, here is the trailer for “The Future is Ow”:
