The Karpidas Family Collection has at long last opened in the Design District of Dallas in its repurposed 6,000 square-foot space, and the DMA’s Gavin Delahunty is the curator of its first exhibition, drawn from the collection. It includes works by, among others: George Condo, John Currin, Marlene Dumas, Urs Fischer, Nan Goldin, Glenn Ligon, Sarah Lucas, and Christopher Wool.

Begun by Pauline Karpidas in the 1970s, the Karpidas Family Collection is among the most renowned private holdings of art in the world. This private art collection is considered to be one of the foremost holdings of contemporary art, and has especially deep holdings in art of the 1980s.
Pauline Karpidas, of England, married Greek shipping magnate Constantine Karpidas and started collecting art while living in England. She’s recently moved her collection to Dallas. She’s been hosting artists and their work on Hydra, an island of Greece, since the ’90s.

The Karpidas Collection exhibition space will be available by appointment only, free of charge, to scholarly and academic groups including schools and museums. The Karpidas Collection, Dallas plans to mount a series of installations showcasing work from the Karpidas Collection for the Dallas community.
