This 2011 portrait of former South African President Nelson Mandela, by photographer Adrian Steirn, was sold a few days ago to a private art collector in New York for $200,000, the highest price paid for a South African photographic portrait. The money raised is to be donated to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital and the World Wildlife Fund. Mandela died last night in South Africa at 8:15 pm local time. (AP and CNN.com)
