Art and Weird Junk at Longview Museum’s Estate Sale

by Paula Newton October 3, 2013

Those in or near Longview this weekend can stop in at the Longview Museum of Fine Arts (LMFA) for its estate sale on Saturday. It will be an opportunity to catch some deals and support the museum at the same time. And the items for sale shouldn’t raise any eyebrows from the American Association of Museum Directors (AAMD) and its Policy on Deaccessioning, which includes the statement that deaccessioning “should be done in order to refine and improve the quality and appropriateness of the collections, the better to serve the museum’s mission.”

Apparently, LMFA has no plans for a collector plate exhibition in the near future. (This particular plate may not be included in the sale.)

LMFA notes that it has been the recipient of several estates, including that of painter Velox Ward, and the sale will include, “art, lamps, frames, dolls, furniture, canes, humidifiers, marble slabs, drafting tools, assemblages, books, rugs, tables, Thomas Kincaid collector plates, Star Trek collector plates, Christmas villages, and many eclectic items.”

Sealed bids will be accepted through October 5 and best bids will be notified on Monday. For more information, contact LMFA at 903-753-8103 or [email protected].
