Every year, Lawndale Art Center invites a guest juror to go through actual, physical works of art brought into the gallery for a couple of days and whittle down the entries for its annual Big Show. This year, the juror was Duncan Mackenzie, artist/critic/writer and co-founder of Bad at Sports, who viewed the 922 works and honed it down to 83 pieces (by 67 artists). Asked about how he felt at the end of the jurying process, Mackenzie replied: “It’s fucking awesome! It’s safe to say this will be the best Big Show ever.”
We’ll just have to wait until the July 12 opening to see if that exuberantly confident statement is warranted. Meanwhile, congratulations to the following artists:
