On Friday, March 15, The Art League of Houston will celebrate the life of Cholla Kepner with a memorial service from 6-7:30 p.m. Cholla was an instructor at the League for over 40 years; she died on January 19 at the age of 80. The memorial will include an exhibition of her work and that of her countless students, wine and cheese. The event is open to the public. I’d like to share an update: the Memorial for Cholla was wonderful, full of her spirit of light. It was the most memorable memorial I ever attended.
Cholla impact on Houston was immense. The children’s portraits, for several generations, her Christmas Cards for Houston Zoo, her students, of which became her’s and Van’s Love Children.
I was one of those. Her lessons changed my life, I she took me by the hand, from the Art League to Texas Art Supply, and like I was a little girl. Because of Cholla, I grew, I faced fear, I fought my dragons.
