April 29 - June 10, 2023
From Davis Gallery:
“Cookie Ashton is truly an artist of the Americas and the world. Having traveled and lived in Texas, Venezuela, and Mexico, and having studied in both London and Paris, her work bristles with the vibrancy of multi-cultural abstraction. Defined as a dreamlike approach, of wet pigments that puddle and swirl into unpredictable prismatic designs. Building dimension, she combines other mediums such as inks, charcoals, and pastels. Making room for surprises, combining precise applications and free-form techniques to create her dynamic, vibrant, abstract paintings.
In her interview with Luxe Magazine, she explains about her creative evolution: “Abstraction to me represents freedom, […] it’s a challenge to see if you can create a good painting while bending the conventional rules.”
This “bending of the rules”, combined with Ashton’s sense of design and knowledge of contemporary aesthetics of interiors, gives her a heightened sensitivity, which she believes, contributes to her success with both commercial, and residential clients. Defining her empathic commitment to listening and understanding the clients’ requirements and dreams.
“Complete satisfaction rarely occurs upon finishing an artwork… yet the promise of it is felt in the process itself each time I begin a new painting. It is this great insufficiency that drives me and is the discipline through which I refine my sensibilities” ~ Cookie Ashton”
