Isom’s Art is her Sport: Monument to Heavyweight Jack Johnson to be Dedicated in Galveston

by Bill Davenport April 15, 2012

The Galveston County Daily News interviews Austin sculptor Adrienne Isom on her work and her lifestyle on the occasion of her new piece, honoring boxer Jack Johnson, to be dedicated in a park honoring the island native who became the first African-American to win the world heavyweight boxing title.

Johnson still has the power to draw crowds: last year an Ike-killed tree carved into the boxer’s likeness by Earl Jones was relocated after complaints about traffic from the local homeowners association!
