More DIY nostalgia

by Bill Davenport February 16, 2009

Last thursday Holland Cotter ranted, (or is it crowed?) over the NY art market collapse in the NY Times, lambasting "groomed-for-success" art school graduates, critics, curators, and career theorists who are, "directly or indirectly, on the industry payroll," and the "flood of well-schooled pictures, ingenious sculptures, fastidious photographs and carefully staged spectacles" they have produced and promoted. He goes on to recall the good old days, the 70’s when, with "virtually no commercial infrastructure for experimental art in place, artists had to create their own marginal, bootstrap model." Sort of like Texas, today!
