by Bill Davenport February 3, 2009

The lid is coming off the rhetoric against the proposed sale of Brandeis University’s Rose Art Museum, and the froth is cresting: Roberta Smith slags Brandeis University in Sunday’s NY Times, calling it a "breathtaking stealth and presumption." The Wall Street Journal ponders the effect the closing will have on Brandeis’ ability to attract donations in the future: "’It makes me feel disposable, like a plastic fork,’ said Marlene Persky of Worcester, Mass., a donor of cash and several artworks to the Rose and current chair of the museum’s collections committee." The Massachusetts attorney general has plans to investigate Brandeis’s actions. Rose Director Michael Rush expresses "shock and horror." Everyone’s got something to say.
