Despite its name, The Harpo Foundation of Kumquat Avenue, Coconut Grove, Florida, is no joke. It hands out money to non-profits that commission new art from under-recognized artists, and last year a lot of those non-profits were in Texas. In 2008 ArtPace funded Richie Budd’s work, Blaffer Gallery in Houston funded Leonardo Drew, and the Ft, Worth Modern did Teresa Hubbard & Alexander Birchler with Harpo money. Believe it or Not!!
