Mitchell grants go to Texans

The Joan Mitchell Foundation has just announced the recipients of its 2007 painters and sculptors grants. Among the 25 winners were a slew of Texans: Dario Robleto and Alex Rubio of San Antonio, Margarita Cabrera of El Paso (recent finalist for the Arthouse Texas Prize), and ex-Core Fellow, Karyn Olivier, now living in Brooklyn. The foundation was established in 1993 following the death of painter Joan Mitchell and seeks to assist contemporary artists and demonstrate that painting and sculpture are significant cultural necessities.
