Rice University has been awarded a $10 million grant from the Brown Foundation to develop a PhD program in art history! As a local insider put it: "Thank you [MFAH director] Peter Marzio, whose fingerprints are all over this. Apparently he made a similar pitch to a nonresponsive UH. Now if only Rice could develop a functional studio art program, they might have two hands to clap with!"
